Is taking "Economics" necessary to excel in business-related courses in university

Is taking "Economics" necessary to excel in business-related courses in university?
I've been taking arts and science courses up until now, and I'll have to apply for university soon. I'm not sure what I want to do, but I'm considering studying Commerce at a Canadian university. I have no background knowledge on business at all. I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me some pointers or maybe give examples of anyone they know who hasn't taken Econ but has done well in university studying business/commerce. Thanks!

You will have to take econ at a university if you are going to be major in business so I recomend taking econ as soon as you can

I've been both a student and a professor in business programs in both the U.S. and Canada, and I've never heard of a program which didn't include economics as one of the requirements. You really do need to understand how economies work in order to understand business' role in those economies. However, few programs require prior knowledge; you generally take economics as part of your normal university requirements.
